OpenAI and Google Cloud announced on Oct. 21 that OpenAI models and Codex agentic workflows are coming to Google Cloud’s Model Garden. Enterprise customers can buy access through Google Cloud Marketplace and, where eligible, apply existing Google Cloud spending commitments. [1] [2]

Private preview for selected customers

Google Cloud says GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out in private preview to select enterprise customers. The company positions Astra for demanding coding, computer-use, professional and scientific work; Sol as a lower-cost option near Astra’s capabilities; and Luna as a faster, cost-efficient choice for routine workloads. Those descriptions are the providers’ positioning, not independent performance benchmarks. [2]

The companies say developers can access the models through APIs, while Codex CLI and Desktop workflows can connect to Google’s Gemini platform for inference. OpenAI also says the models are planned for Google Antigravity and Gemini Agent. Broader availability is planned in the coming weeks, so the announcement does not set a general-release date. [1] [2]

Cloud distribution and governance

Marketplace purchasing places model usage on a Google Cloud invoice and can let eligible customers draw on cloud commitments, according to Google. The commercial details could reduce procurement friction for companies already using Google infrastructure, but the companies have not disclosed pricing, sales volume or revenue-sharing terms. [2]

OpenAI says the arrangement is designed to pair its models with Google Cloud access controls, data governance and infrastructure. Google says prompts, context and outputs remain within a designated data perimeter and are not used to train foundation models. It also describes isolated gateways, identity controls and audit logging. These are provider statements, not an independent certification of every deployment. [1] [2]

Reuters reports the deal broadens OpenAI’s enterprise distribution across cloud providers and makes Google Cloud a sales channel for a competitor to Gemini. The confirmed change is access and procurement: models are in private preview, and wider availability remains planned rather than delivered. [3] [4]
