Semtech says its AirLink XR60, XR80 and XR90 in-vehicle 5G routers now support carrier network slices intended for public-safety traffic. The company also announced new fleet-management controls and a software path to FIPS 140-3 support on compatible devices. It plans to demonstrate the features at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference in Orlando. [1] [2]

Carrier priority for emergency users

Semtech says the three routers are certified for T-Mobile T-Priority and Verizon Frontline network slices, which provide prioritized access to emergency-network resources on those carriers. The devices are also FirstNet Trusted for use on FirstNet, the public-safety network built with AT&T. Network slicing partitions or prioritizes network resources; the company’s announcement does not promise immunity from congestion or failures. [1]

Semtech cited a 2025 T-Mobile survey in which 64% of first responders reportedly named unreliable connectivity as their biggest concern. That figure is presented in the company’s release and is not an independently verified measure here. [1]

Software and fleet administration

Semtech says AirLink OS 6.1 lets compatible routers support FIPS 140-3 without replacing hardware. That is a vendor statement about eligible devices and a software update, not independent confirmation that every model or configuration meets an agency’s procurement requirements. Agencies evaluating compliance will need to verify the applicable module validation and device status. NIST describes FIPS 140-3 as the standard for cryptographic modules and maintains a public validation program. [1] [3]

The company says new groups in AirLink Management Service let administrators apply software and configuration standards by device model, check fleet compliance and correct out-of-standard settings. Version 2.18.1 of AirLink Manager and AirLink Mobility Manager adds on-premises management across the AirLink OS portfolio, according to Semtech. The company says this option can support air-gapped environments where internet-connected administration is restricted. [1]

Demonstrations, not field results

Semtech plans live demonstrations at IACP 2026, but its announcement does not report independent performance tests, adoption figures or measured response-time improvements. The practical value will depend on carrier availability, device compatibility and agencies’ own security requirements. [1] [2]
